Residential Care Facilities

California Residential Care Facilities:

Residential Care Facilities [RCFs] are those facilities that are custodial in nature and do not provide “skilled care”.  This is what differentiates a RCF from a Skilled Nursing Facility or a Convalescent Home.

Residential Care Facilities are often also called “Assisted Living Facilities” or “Board & Care Facilities”.

There are several types of RCFs.  Categories of Licensed RCFs are as follows:

  • Social Rehabilitation Facilities

  • Adult Day Programs

  • Small Family Homes

  • Group Homes

  •  Adult Residential Facilities

  • Transitional Housing Placement Program

  • Crisis Nurseries

  • Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly

  • Residential Care Facilities for the Chronically Ill Foster Family Homes

The above facilities are all licensed and regulated by the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division [DSS CCL].

Tracy Albee, RN LNCC CLCP FIALCP has been providing nurse consulting services to the DSS CCL since 1996 and therefore has gained expertise in both the facilities and the Title 22 Regulations that govern such facilities.  Her experience has an emphasis on the Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly [RCFEs].
